In 2016, Korea suffered a major event of empeachment. Unlike the violent tendencies of previous rallies, this rally was peaceful and influential. I saw that individual opinions gathered and became an influential phenomenon. As the fire moves from one candle to another, the opinion of people gathered in that space can also be used to make a louder voice.

As a member of society at that wonderful moment, I decide to design something that has the same feature like candlelight rallies. I thought the spread of opinion can show as an the infection of light.

Fire and light is same in the way that they are both luminant, but their attributes are highly different. Like the fire carries from one part to another, the infection of light is unraveled in a digital manner.

Making Process

The small act makes a big influence in a space. My meaningless movements earn a meaning when the light infects the space. This enables a visual experience by the interaction of the movement of a machine. Trying to show the concept of infection by user and space with shadow. The designed figure will make the user want to create pattern. When the performer turns around the unit, the piece answers with the pattern of light through the space.

A person’s little movement is not scattered in to the void, but has a somewhat influence in the visual moment of interaction.

My ex-boyfriend’s words, lightly thrown at me, “If you have a minute, how about a cup of coffee?” makes my head complicated in an instant. These kinds of small triggers often cause big emotional changes in everyday life. These feelings are confusing and give an impression being scum to be stacked. Unfulfilled emotion and words are slowly dissolved.

Emotion you felt when brewing tea is visualized as the dyed thread. And it is combined into words. With dyed yarn, user records and contains a little more meaningful message. I thought the dying process was like the contagious emotion of romantic relationship. Emotional line (thread) is like to establish an entangled relationship.  I thought designing by thread would represent these kind of relationshipI thought the dying process was like the contagious emotion of romantic relationship. I complete my own words, connecting alphabets with the dyed yarn.

This is an act of linking my message with a line. Feeling is recorded in a book.

Containing time: It’s normal for things to wear out with long use. PATY holds those times by scratches on its surface. Just like my 26 years old pillow, This bottle opener contains times and I can feel these times with my hands and eyes. Like my old pillow, this bottle opener can change its cloth and be with me as long as it can.

My 26-year-old pillow represents my identity that I can’t easily forsake things and I love drinking and hanging out with people. Choosing these two characteristics as key features of this work.

I projected a person’s original voice in movement like swaying waves.  Developed as if audience looking into the deep sea to creating an experience that one is under the water himself. When audience’s voice reaches the sensor in a dark room, it creates a sway. The sway of wave is projected in the wall and ceiling and the wave that one person creates fills up the entire room.

People have their own unique voice. The voice that can detected auditorily can also be recognized and expressed visually by waves. The voice’s sound wave and echo leaves its original trace by cutting the air. I projected a person’s original voice in line and movement like swaying waves.

Structure

This is a work starting from two questions. ‘What if the illumination can be controlled through simple action?’ ‘What if the act of turning the light can adjust the brightness of space?’. The name of the light is Try-angle, which means that the users can try different angles so that they can find the amount of light that fits their space.

I took a form of turning the side to manage the amount of light, so that user can make illumination control more intuitively. Varying angle of lightening part can adjust the amount of light.

I designed to avoid interference with a simple design by installing a built-in USB charger

If the light in the center is likened to the sun, as soon as the light is turned on and the morning comes to them. And when the light is turned off, the night comes to them. In order to design a small town that stays with me in my room, I originally thought of making small models directly and putting them into an acrylic pipe, but  designed in the form of attaching houses upside down to take the shape of hanging a lamp from the ceiling.
